5 days to go!! :D

Another year another UKOUG annual Conference - but this year it is going to be even better. Why? Because I`ll be there!! Just kidding.. This year UKOUG is celebrating 25 years of serving the Oracle community.

I wont be there for the 4 days as I have too much going on with a major URM project role out. But you may see me Monday, I`ll be hanging around the Ether Solutions stand ;) Come over and chat!

Sigh.. ..
The joys of the internet last night someone decided to try and attack my server - as you may have noticed there was a major slow down and you were lucky if you could connect :’(

I stopped apache this morning, let everything process and catchup. So everything is back up for the moment but we will see how things go…

Content Management Simplified

Still not much up on the site but the articles posted are interesting and cover some of the Oracle UCM technology and some how to’s :)

I`ll be adding this to my links section soon - I`m sure there will be a couple of great articles posted here in the next couple of months.

Yesterday, whilst working on my VM instance on my external harddrive, I came across CRC error. Which I was convinced was down to VMWARE corruption as I could access and manage files on the hard drive with no problems. But every time I launched into win2003 server on VM I would get a CRC popup message that would prevent me from booting into the OS..

Important!! And this is what I think caused the problem:: about 15 minutes before the errors there had been a power cut which must of somehow shocked my USB HD.

After hours of defragging, putting the HD in the fridge giving it to the dog to play with I decided to try and move the 25gb VM image onto another machine this is when I got a message from the XP complaining about the CRC error. ooooh..

So to fix the CRC error on the hardDrive::

Make sure you defrag your HD first!
I use Defraggler Its far superior to windows defrag.

1. Right click and select properies off the harddrive - mine was g:drive
2. Select the tools tab
3. Under error-checking select the “check now” button.
4. Enable / tick the 2 check boxes and hit start.
5. This will take a good 8hrs + but should fix your probs.
6. You when you boot your OS in vmware it may ask you to do a scandisk I chose yes to this and everything worked out fine ;)

Today I was fortunate enough to be invited into a Webcenter presentation with two Oracle representatives.

I was quite happily shocked with what I was shown. And will be taking back the rant I left a week a so a go, about Oracle portal technology “being a pile of poo”. It actually looks good, even though I am presuming its not yet complete as Oracles demo was a slide show / video presentation!…

I`m gonna have to say well done to the BEA team! I can see they are starting to have a positive effect on Oracles software. Keep up the great work guys, I am loving the improvements its slowly getting as sexy as sharepoint!! :)

P.S. Please just get rid of that Oracle UCM portal component and force your clients to use Webcenter! Thanks..
