For those of you fedup of no colour coding or code completion within the UCM component manager - Arnoud Koot at Oracle has released a nice free extension for notepad++

If your taking that next step and upgrading Site Studio there is one major upgrade note you should know about.. Which isn’t really documented in detail within any of the OTN docs.

Version 10.1.3.3.3 Build 8.x/9.x+ or site studio now updates the xml schema of data files to come in line with 10gR4.

So if you are upgrading your UCM environment to 10g I would advise that if your sites use a lot of ssIncludeXml() idoc functions to pull in content from your data files / region elements then install 10.3.3.2 of  Build 7.7.2.477 of Site Studio updated July09; which keeps the old schema structure.

If you are migrating sites from 10.1.3.3.2 or lower to a 10.1.3.3.3+ environment your old data files will still be supported however when you make a content update in site studio your data file will automatically be updated to the new schema. Any ssIncludeXml function calling an old xpath statement will no longer pull back content until you update your xpath to match the new schema.

The problem you will find if you have a large website with hundreds maybe thousands of data files is that it is not a simple option to manually update all your data files and xpaths statements.

Because there is no easy way to update these data files - I`ve created a simple component to go through and do the work for you.

##Warning::

I just found a bug::07/03/10! - This component will currently only update your elements - if you use lists it will not upgrade them! - I am working on a new update to support transformation of lists within the XML schema. Unfortunatly there is no easy way to determine in 7.x if the item is a list or an element therefor you will have to update the new component I am working on listing all your list names.

The Oracle UCM blog team “Fusion ECM” have started nominations for the top 10 UCM components of all time!! I may enter some of the components - which I havent as yet released on bluestudios.

Here’s my rating of the top10 components other bloggers have released.

1. Digaset Desktop UCM integration .
Well its not free and its not yet available, but will be a badass frontend for the UCM suite..
Keep a lookout for this! - ajax 10.2 bring it on… Screenshot appearing in the next hour

2. Amazon S3 File Store Provider for Oracle UCM
Although Oracle now provide this I believe David Roe was the first to impliment it - good work..

3. Flash Conversion and Streaming for Oracle UCM
Convert you media/assets to flash and use the UCM as your media streaming server..

4. IDOC Developer Interface & jquery support
Another great set of dev tools by David & Jason Stortz - write out and test your custom idoc directly within the UCM.
I love these tools it makes development and testing so much faster!

5. Enhanced Remote Metadata Updater
I believe the original Metadata tool was created by Bex - But the enhanced version has helped me out loads - Thanks to Jason on this..
There is a official UCM Metadata updated tool available - but it is part of the URM solution and is hidden away

6. Update UCM Portal(login) & Home Page
My small custom component that will let you transform the login page and also changed the home page to a customisable search screen from config manager.

7. Auto Fill Friendly Name
Nice SS component that gives those website assets nice contentIDs.

8. Custom Portlet gerator
My Version of Oracle Portal jazzed up to look like netvibes..

9. Dynamic quick search
Allows you to save an advance search and then when selected asks for metafields values you have selected to search upon; instead of going back to advanced search page.
I will release this component next week after I finish testing..

10. Sharepoint services webparts
I can`t remember which company in the UK did this.. Anyone?
But they rewrote Oracle UCM webparts to integrate into sharepoint services and not server so you can use sharepoint with the ucm for free!!! They did a presentation at Birmingham OUGUK.
